Union workers at Nine Mile One and Two decide today whether to allow their leaders to call a strike against the company that owns the nuclear plants in the town of Scriba, as a mediator arrives to try to avoid a walkout.
Community Partnerships for a Tobacco Free New York launched a campaign to educate New Yorkers about the benefits of tobacco free outdoor recreational areas. The campaign raises awareness of the environmental impact of tobacco litter, dangers of secondhand smoke and influence on children when tobacco use is not restricted.
Congressman Bill Owens held a town hall style meeting at the Auditorium in the Campus Center on the SUNY Oswego Campus tonight (June 28). The meeting was open to anyone and more than 50 people were in attendance. Anyone that wanted to was given the opportunity to ask Congressman Owens a question.

Despite an overcast morning, racers and fans alike arrived at Wright’s Landing early Sunday to participate and watch Oswego’s first nationally sanctioned triathlon. More than 250 participants registered for the event with experience ranging from first time triathlon participants to seasoned veterans.
At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council voted 4-2-1 to extend its lease agreement with the Port of Oswego Authority regarding the International Marina. Voting in favor of the move were councilors Connie Cosemento, Mike Myers, Cathy Santos and Ron Kaplewicz. The nay votes were by councilors Shawn Walker and Bill Sharkey, who added an emphatic “Absolutely no.”

Oswego County’s unemployment rate continued in May to fall back from its historic highs, but the news behind the numbers is less positive.
