Gertie’s Resting Place Remains A Mystery
One of the ghosts that beckon divers to the bottom of Lake Ontario is named “Getaway Gertie.” On Feb. 18, 1944 “Getaway Gertie,” a B-24 Liberator bomber went down in the lake somewhere between Nine Mile Point east of the Port City and Port Ontario. Despite the best efforts of many divers over the years, the plane and its crew of eight has never been found.

The annual report contains some good news for Oswego, according to district officials
Four Oswego Residents Charged With Counterfeiting
The indictment charges Anthony Paris, 20; Kristy Guilds, 24; Jeremy Rowe, 20; and Mitch McQuaid, 20 with the felony offense of conspiracy to manufacture and pass counterfeit currency (10 and 20 dollar Federal Reserve notes) in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
Student Reportedly Admits To Fake Threat At OMS
UPDATED: Earlier today (Feb. 17) an Oswego Middle School student wrote a message on a restroom stall indicating that there was a bomb in the building, according to a district statement sent to OMS parents and staff. School officials immediately instituted a ‘stay in place’ as they prepared to evacuate the building. However, evacuation was not necessary as the student provided the administration with a written admission of guilt, the district said.

Hannibal Administrators Outline Worst-Case Possibilities for Budget Cuts
No sports. No band, chorus or theater. No junior prom, no homecoming, no clubs. No specialized art classes. Fewer electives in the high school and class sizes up to 27 in the elementary school. No kindergarten.
That’s the blackest of the many dark visions of the immediate future of one of the state’s poorest school districts as it works to cover state aid cuts for next year’s budget.
