For Rick Wilson, the pet business is sort of a homecoming. For the past couple of months, he and his girlfriend, Jennifer Seabury, have operated The Pet Store at 388 W. First St., across from the Oswego Post Office, in the former Glider Oil site.

The city of Fulton will likely suffer a cut in its aid from the state, but Mayor Ron Woodward is actually relieved.
“I thought it would be a lot worse than that,” he said of the $33,000 cut in the city’s aid.

Scholastic Art judges awarded eighth grader Kayla Volkomer an honorable mention award. OMS Art teacher Linda Shannon said, “Kayla has an exceptional way of expressing herself visually. This is the first time I can recall that an Oswego Middle School student has received this recognition.”

The huge snowstorm creating havoc in the Midwest and elsewhere never really materialized in Central New York Wednesday. The Oswego-Fulton area received about 5.5 inches of snow with some freezing rain mixed in.
The storm didn’t quite turn out to be the monster that forecasts suggested it would be. Nonetheless, it generated enough snow and icy pellets overnight to force schools across the county to close for the day. That includes Oswego, Fulton, Hannibal, Phoenix, Mexico, Central Square, APW, Pulaski and Sandy Creek. Also closed: Cayuga Community College’s Fulton campus.
The Oswego School District Public Library will open at noon.
