OSWEGO, NY – Four Oswego residents have been indicted for counterfeiting in Oswego County.
According to Richard Hartunian, US Attorney, Northern District of New York, four Port City residents have been charged for “conspiracy to counterfeit Federal Reserve notes.”
The indictment charges Anthony Paris, 20; Kristy Guilds, 24; Jeremy Rowe, 20; and Mitch McQuaid, 20 with the felony offense of conspiracy to manufacture and pass counterfeit currency (10 and 20 dollar Federal Reserve notes) in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
If found guilty, all four defendants face a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
Specifically, the indictment alleges:
Count One
From on or about June 1, 2010, through June 15, 2010, in Oswego County, in the Northern District of New York, and elsewhere, the four defendants and others, known and unknown, knowingly, intentionally and unlawfully combined, conspired, confederated and agreed with one another to commit the following offenses against the United States:
1 – falsely making, forging and counterfeiting obligations and securities of the United States with the intent to defraud contrary to Title 18, United States Code, Section 471 and
2 – Passing, uttering, concealing and possessing falsely made, forged and counterfeit obligations and securities of the United States with the intent to defraud contrary to Title 18, United States Code, Section 472.
All in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
Overt Acts
In furtherance of the conspiracy and to effect the objects thereof, the defendants and co-conspirators committed the following overt acts, among others, in the Northern District of New York and elsewhere:
1 – On or about June 10, 2010, Anthony Paris, Kristy Guilds and Jeremy Rowe transported a Canon Pixma printer from Buffalo, NY, to Hamilton Homes apartment No. 36, Oswego, NY
2 – On or about June 10, 2010, Anthony Paris passed a counterfeit Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $20 at a McDonald’s restaurant in Mexico, NY
3 – On or about June 14, 2010, Anthony Paris, Kristy Guilds, Jeremy Rowe and Mitch McQuaid utilized a Canon Pixma printer to falsely make counterfeit Federal Reserve notes at Hamilton Homes apartment No. 36.
4 – On or about June 15, 2010, Anthony Paris, Kristy Guilds, Jeremy Rowe and Mitch McQuaid utilized a Canon Pixma printer to falsely make counterfeit Federal Reserve notes at Hamilton Homes apartment No. 36.
5 – On or about June 15, 2010, Anthony Paris and Mitch McQuaid stole two printer ink cartridges from a Wal-Mart store in Oswego.
6 – On or about June 15, 2010, Mitch McQuaid attempted to pass a counterfeit Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $20 to KQ restaurant, 293 State Route 104, Oswego.
7 – On or about June 15, 2010, Mitch McQuaid attempted to pass a counterfeit Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $10 Bosco and Geers located at 343 East Ave. #1, Oswego.
Count Two
On or about June 10, 2010, in the Northern District of New York, Anthony Paris with intent to defraud did pass and utter at a McDonald’s restaurant, 3362 Main St., Mexico, a falsely made, forged and counterfeit obligation of the United States that is a Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $20 series number 2006, serial number IK86208418B, which he then knew to be falsely made, forged and counterfeited in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 472.
Count Three
On or about June 15, 2010, in the Northern District of New York, Mitch McQuaid with intent to defraud did pass and utter and attempt to pass and utter at KQ restaurant, 293 State Route 104, Oswego, a falsely made, forged and counterfeit obligation of the United States that is a Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $20, which he then knew to be falsely made, forged and counterfeited in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 472.
Count Four
On or about June 15, 2010, in the Northern District of New York, Mitch McQuaid with intent to defraud did pass and utter and attempt to pass and utter at Bosco and Geers located at 343 East Ave. #1, Oswego, a falsely made, forged and counterfeit obligation of the United States that is a Federal Reserve note in the denomination of $10, which he then knew to be falsely made, forged and counterfeited in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 472.
The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
This prosecution resulted from an investigation conducted by the Oswego Police Department and the United States Secret Service, Syracuse Field Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Ransom P. Reynolds.
