Oswego County’s unemployment rate dropped from its near-historic highs in August, but not because more county residents found jobs in the midst of a long and damaging recession.
The Oswego Common Council paved the way Monday night for a firefighters’ memorial. Councilors approved the Fire Department’s request to use public space on the west side of the Eastside Fire Station, on the grass between the station and the walking path, for construction of a firefighters’ memorial including a flagpole, decorative pavers and benches.
The Oswego school board revisited the possibility of conducting a redistricting and relocation initiative in the district. The board conducted a discussion this week with consultants from Syracuse University’s Office of Professional Research and Development. The board concluded the discussion without setting a timetable for any decision to be made.
One of Central New York’s most famous Native American athletes urged Fulton’s Board of Education to talk to Onondaga Nation members before approving a new athletics logo meant to honor them.
Moments later, the board approved the logo.
