Stuff A Bus Program Benefits Hundreds Of County Students

Chris and Rich Burritt of Burritt Motors in Oswego are joined by Lois Luber, left of the United Way, and Stuff-A-Bus coordinator Ali McGrath in front of the bus at Staples in Oswego. The Burritts made a large donation to this year’s program.

In an effort to ensure every child is prepared for school, the United Way of Greater Oswego County held its annual Success By 6 “Stuff a Bus” campaign at nine different bus locations around the county. The school supplies will now be divided among the nine districts in the coming days.

Fulton Water Flushing Program Begins Today

Here’s a notice from the City of Fulton:

The Fulton Water Department Flushing Program will begin Monday, August 16, 2010. Flushing will begin in the morning and continue until sunset. Flushing will start in the southeast quadrant and proceed in a northerly and westerly direction. This program should be completed no later than August 31, 2010.

CUSTOMERS MAY EXPERIENCE LOW PRESSURE AND/OR DISCOLORED WATER.

Traffic Alert – Street Closure Planned For Demolition Work Friday

The Oswego City Police Department wishes to alert motorists to a traffic change planned for tomorrow (Aug. 13). Due to the planned demolition of the building located at 133 W. Fifth St., the Traffic Section of the Oswego Police Department will be closing West Fifth Street from West Oneida Street to West Bridge Street for all vehicular traffic.

Fire Chief: Corrective Measures In Place

The fire department was notified in a letter dated June 29, that they were found to be in violations of section 3031 of the Public Health Law and a regulation addressing documentation requirements for advanced life support systems. A plan of correction was to be submitted by no later than July 22, and in fact was submitted and accepted by that date.

Hannibal Schools Waits for Word of Federal Aid, But May Not Hire Classroom Teachers With the Money

Schools across  the state want to know when the new federal education aid to hire teachers will show up.  In Hannibal, the Superintendent of Schools worries it won’t show up in time to hire teachers before school begins, and even if it does, the district may end up laying off those teachers next year.
