Hundreds Walk To Raise Awareness Of Autism

More than 550 people turned out Saturday for the annual Oswego County Autism Task Force’s “Walk for Autism.” The group seeks to provide information that enhances the lives of those touched by Autism Spectrum Disorders in the community. The event featured children’s activities, entertainment, light refreshments, autism information, and an organized 1, 2, or 3-mile walk.

Oswego Police: Beware Of Possible Scams

An elderly woman was going to send a large amount of money to a location in Jamaica via Western Union. Police were alerted when the store employee helping the woman suspected it might be a scam. In another incident,  a victim said she had answered a job posting on Craiglist.com for a housekeeper. She had to send money to receive keys to the house where she was supposed to start her job.

Former Fultonian Pulled From Crowd To Caddy For Top Pro Golfer

Dr. Tom BuchholzA former Fulton athlete got the sporting thrill of a lifetime recently when he was pulled out of the crowd to carry the clubs of a pro golfer.

And not just any golfer.

Tom Buchholz caddied three holes at the Shell Houston Open for Phil Mickelson, who won golf’s most important event, the Masters, right after that.

Hannibal Board Restores Phys Ed Position, Approves Budget For Public Vote

The Hannibal school board Wednesday night unanimously approved a budget for the next school year. It calls for $25,452,989 in spending, and requires 2.99% tax levy to plug an approx. $1.7m deficit. It resembles the same budget the board rejected last week, with one slight tweak. Instead of eliminating 10 entire teaching positions, this revised version restores a part-time physical education teacher.

Contingency Budget for Fulton Schools Would Be Lower, Would Lower The Boom on Community Groups

On any average night, Fulton school buildings are alive with activity. A youth sports league team may be practicing on school district fields. A Neighborhood Watch group or Girl Scout troop may be meeting in a classroom. A volleyball league may be playing in an elementary school gym.

None of these groups is a part of the Fulton City School District, yet each one has a stake in the outcome of next month’s budget vote.

SAFER Grant Debate Continues To Burn

The grant could save the city thousands. However, in year three of the grant, the city’s share would be more than $729,000. The city would also have to fund the additional firefighters after that; or it could lay them off after the grant is done.  Whether to find ways to make up the revenue has been a hot button issue between councilors and the fire department.
