The Friends of Fort Ontario will sponsor the May 8-9 War of 1812 commemoration event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site. Dr. Harold Youmans will be the featured speaker and will present a program on the May 5-7, 1814, Battle of Oswego on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.

Unemployment Rate Drops A Bit in Oswego County
Data from the state Labor Department shows the unemployment rate in Oswego County in March was 10.8%. That’s down from 11.5% in February but is a few tenths of a point higher than the jobless rate of a year ago.

UPDATE: New York Chocolate and Confections filed for bankruptcy protection Thursday, ending its long attempt to bring chocolate manufacturing back to its North American birthplace.
“We are not accepting the Chapter 11 activity as there’s no absolutely no hope, that the plant’s going to be liquidated, sold, and the plant’s going to be scrapped,” the head of Operation Oswego County, Mike Treadwell said.
