Safe Haven Reflections: ‘The Shelter Saved My Parents’ Lives’
“Fort Ontario is where the Holocaust came to America,” said Paul Lear, Historic Site Manager at Fort Ontario. The Port City commemorated the Aug. 5, 1944, arrival of 982 Holocaust refugees at the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter. Other special events and activities linked to significant dates and life at the refugee shelter will continue into 2021.

Oswego Dog License Renewal Now Available On-line
Mayor Billy Barlow announced today, August 8, that Oswego residents can now renew dog licenses on-line using the city’s website (www.oswegony.org). The city licenses more than 1,700 dogs annually, 1,500 of those are renewals.

5 Transported to Syracuse Hospital After Volney House Fire
At 8:57 a.m. today, August 7, State Police in Fulton responded to 2494 County Route 176 in the town of Volney for a structure fire. The investigation has revealed a total of five residents of the home were located in the residence by fire personnel.

Mayor Barlow Submits REDI Proposal For City of Oswego to New York State
Mayor Billy Barlow announced today, August 6, the city has submitted an application to be considered or Governor Andrew Cuomo’s $300 million Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative to New York State. REDI was announced by Governor Cuomo earlier this year due to high water levels and flooding along the shoreline of Lake Ontario, causing millions of dollars in damage and wreaking havoc all along the shoreline.
