Fort Ontario Under Siege This Weekend

A regiment of the King’s army was set upon shortly after 10 O’clock this morning by a group of rebellious colonists while walking in East Park. The Continental Army attacked the British in the park on Bridge Street in Oswego. The attack forced the Loyalists to retreat and fighting continued up East Fourth Street to the gates of the British-held fort. Rebel troops launched a full-scale assault on the fort Saturday afternoon.

Richland Woman Dies In ATV Crash

On Friday (August 24) at approximately 9:44 p.m., the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to an ATV accident on County Route 2, approximately two miles west of County Route 17, in the town of Redfield. The operator and sole passenger was identified as 52-year-old Diane L. Graham of Richland.

West Nile, More EEE Found at Toad Harbor Swamp

On Thursday, Aug. 23, the New York State Health Department confirmed three new EEE positive mosquito cases, bringing the number of EEE positive mosquito cases this summer in Oswego County to nine. In addition, the state reported that one sample of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus.

Pair Facing Several Drug Charges

On Thursday investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit, executed a narcotics related search warrant at 196 Gardenier Road in the town of Oswego. As a result, approximately 14.5 grams of crack cocaine and 9 Suboxone strips were seized, police said.

U.S. Army and The Port City Partner Up

Historic Oswego wrote another chapter in its centuries old relationship with the U.S. Army. Representatives from the Army and the city of Oswego signed a partnership agreement August 23 as part of the Army’s Partnership for Youth Success program. The partnership will guarantee U.S. Army veterans a job interview when they apply for any city government job opportunity.

Amboy Crash Victim Identified; Accident Still Under Investigation

The Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the driver killed in a one-car motor vehicle crash that occurred on August 19 in Amboy. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Louis Watkins of Camden was killed when his 2002 Volkswagen left the roadway, rolled over and struck several trees.

This legislation, which could pass the Senate as soon as this week, includes $3.7 billion in federal funding for treatment and prevention programs

Teen Dies In Volney Crash

At 6:29 a.m. today members off the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to County Route 6, south of Clifford Road in the town of olney for a two-car motor vehicle accident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the southbound Hyundai Elantra, operated by 19-year-old Jericho Bond, of Mexico, collided with a northbound Volkswagen Jetta, operated by Bruce Mott, 36, of Locke, NY. Bond was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
