Port City Program Looks To Boost Downtown Businesses

The Administrative Services Committee gave a favorable recommendation Monday night to Mayor Billy Barlow’s request for council approval to execute a grant agreement with the state. “This is $600,000 we set aside to help small businesses downtown, Mayor Barlow said. He’ll host two informational sessions on Tuesday (May 22); one from 5 to 6 p.m. and the other from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oswego Canal Commons Conference Room at 197 W. First St. The public is invited.

Katko Seeks Input From CNY Educators, Establishes Local Advisory Boards

U.S. Rep. John Katko today (May 21) announced the creation of two education advisory boards in order to gain valuable input on legislative priorities from Central New York educators. The first advisory board is focused on primary and secondary education throughout Wayne, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oswego counties. The second is focused on higher education and includes representatives from every higher education facility in the district.

Mayor Barlow Welcomes Two Safe Haven Refugees Back to Oswego

Two former refugees who were at Safe Haven as young children returned to Oswego for the first time in nearly 75 years. “It’s really an honor to host you today and have the both of you back,” Mayor Billy Barlow told the visitors. “I feel, individually, that the real reason that I’m here … is to be extremely grateful and thankful to the city of Oswego and its people,” Jack Bass said.

Oswego Hospital staff members practiced for a disaster they hope will never occur. However, thanks to their training, they are now better prepared for the real thing. More than three dozen Oswego Hospital employees wore protective suits as they hosed down “victims” exposed to a hazardous substance in a special tent who were then triaged outside the hospital’s emergency entrance on Thursday.
