Fulton School Budget Approved by District Voters

Fulton City School District qualified voters showed up to vote on the district’s proposed 2018-2019 budget, three open seats on the board of education, and a proposition to approve the purchase of two passenger vans. Unofficial results show the $71,992,850 budget was approved by voters with 340 votes in favor and 142 against, several hundred fewer voters than the previous year. Two newcomers and one incumbent have secured three available seats on the district’s board of education.

Fox Tests Positive for Rabies in Sandy Creek

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (May 15) that a gray fox has tested positive for rabies in the town of Sandy Creek. This is the second rabid animal confirmed this year in Oswego County. It was reported last week that the fox attacked three people in the vicinity of Snyder Road and County Route 15. Those who were exposed are receiving post-contact rabies treatments.

Fulton Police Joins Click It or Ticket To Crack Down on Seat Belt Use – Especially at Night

The city of Fulton Police Department will join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates all across the country for the 2018 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, May 21 through June 3. During the mobilization, officers will be cracking down on motorists who fail to wear their seat belts, both during the day and night.

Oswego Council Honors Firefighter, Teacher

Firefighter Sean O’Gorman, who was recently cited by New York Senator Patty Ritchie for saving the lives of two distressed teen-age swimmers, received the first “Mayor’s Award” from Mayor Billy Barlow. Also recognized was Nicholas J. Little, a teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego for receiving the 2018 Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award from New York State. It was the only award in Oswego County.

Mayor Barlow Announces 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (May 14) the schedule and list of activities for the 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration in Oswego. He also announced the opening of parade participation applications and encouraged local organizations to participate in the parade as the theme this year will be “Hometown Pride.” The Independence Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, along State Route 104 from Oswego High School to Fort Ontario.

County Offers Help for Replacing Septic Systems in Environmentally Sensitive Areas Along Lake Ontario Shoreline

Oswego County homeowners and small business owners who have failing or septic systems that do not meet today’s standards and are in environmentally-sensitive areas may be eligible for assistance through the New York State Septic System Replacement Program. The program is administered by the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.
