Nine Mile Point Unit 2 Refueling Outage Under Way

Operators at Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station removed Unit 2 from service just after midnight on Sunday (April 15) to begin a planned refueling outage. More than 1,700 highly-skilled local and regional union and tradespeople are in the area to support the outage. For several weeks, they will fill nearby hotels to capacity and bolster local businesses during a typically slower tourism period.

Scores Go Bald To Fight Childhood Cancer, Raise Awareness

The crowd was kind of small compared to other years. However, their donations were huge. Several dozen volunteers put on the 12th annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser Sunday at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center. From noon until 3 p.m. more than 112 “shavees” paraded to barber chairs have their hair shaved by volunteer barbers, including students from CiTi. Their goal this year was to raise $75,000. By mid-afternoon, they were almost there.

County Approves State Mandated Pay Hike For DA

The Oswego County Legislature Thursday night approved a $12,400 pay increase for the county District Attorney. It’s not like they really had a choice in the matter. According the NYS Judiciary Law, each county’s DA salary is linked to the salaries of state judges. The salary for a DA must be equal to or exceed the salary of the county court judge or state Supreme Court justice. In a separate resolution, legislators urge the state to change the way it handles the raise.

Oswego Man Charged With Cocaine Possession

On April 9 investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Oswego City Police Department and the New York State Police, executed a narcotics related search warrant at 110 W. Third St., Oswego. As a result, approximately 37.1 grams of cocaine were seized, police said. The resident, Nicholas D. Andersen, is facing several charges.

Justice Department Files Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Against Owners and Managers of Oswego Area Rental Properties

The Justice Department announced today that it has filed a lawsuit alleging that Douglas S. Waterbury, a residential property owner and landlord in the Oswego area, subjected female tenants and potential tenants to egregious sexual harassment in violation of the Fair Housing Act. Along with Douglas Waterbury, the Department’s complaint names his wife and business partner, Carol A. Waterbury, and two residential property companies, Ontario Realty Incorporated and E&A Management Co., as defendants.
