Flu activity is picking up in Oswego County! If you or your loved ones have not received a flu vaccine yet, get vaccinated today. Across New York State, cases of flu increased by 66 percent for the week ending Dec. 30, compared to the previous week.
Fort Ontario State Historic Site Manager Paul Lear presents an illustrated lecture on the history of America’s only Holocaust Refugee Camp, located at Fort Ontario in Oswego. The program will take place at 2 p.m. on January 27 in the large meeting room at G.S. Steamers Bar and Grill in the Quality Inn, 70 E. First St.
On Saturday, January 27, an army of volunteers will gather at the VFW Post #369, 5930 Scenic Ave, Mexico. The public is invited to join Homes For Our Troops as it kicks off the build project for Army SPC Ryan Wilcox’s forever home. Spc. Wilcox, a local wounded soldier, will be the recipient of a specially modified, mortgage-free home for wounded soldiers from Homes for Our Troops.

Paula Hayden resigned from her position as a board member in December 2017. Since then, the remaining six board members have grappled with how to move forward in handling the vacant seat. They were split in deciding between leaving the seat vacant and appointing a replacement. At Tuesday’s (Jan 9) regular meeting, the six remaining members continued to debate the situation. Ultimately, the board settled at a decision to solicit letters of interest from anyone interested that also fits the necessary criteria. The board will act on an appointment at the next board meeting on Tuesday, Jan 23.
For today (Jan. 12), they are cancelling all after-school and evening activities. For tomorrow (Jan. 13) they are cancelling all activities.
Shane R. Vivlamore, 30, of Fulton, was arrested after an investigation by the city of Fulton Police Department and charged with the following crimes: Sexual Abuse in the First Degree – Class D Felony, Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Class A Misdemeanor, Forcible Touching – Class A Misdemeanor.
A plentiful crowd filled the area’s newest ALDI store as a ribbon cutting ceremony officially welcomed the international grocery chain to Fulton. One of more than 1,600 ALDI stores throughout the United States, the Fulton store located at 555 S. Fourth St. boasts a fresh, modern look with priority on providing quality, affordable products to shoppers. Mayor Ronald Woodward welcomed ALDI to Fulton, a project that was “a long time coming” before store manager, Todd Moore cut the ribbon and declared the store officially open. “I feel relieved, glad, and now I’m looking forward to developing the remaining 22 acres of that site and I think Aldi will be a great draw for others,” Mayor Woodward told Oswego County Today.
