The 2018 Maple Weekends brochure listing 17 sugarmakers, four pancake breakfast sites, the American Maple Museum and the Fourth Annual Maple Sap Run and Walk in Oneida, Lewis, Jefferson and Oswego counties is now available.
Frederick Leighton Elementary and Paul V. Moore High School have been named recipients of Capacity Building Grants from Terra Science and Education, Inc. for a total of $5,368.06 in grant funding going into Oswego County Schools.
Oswego Industries is expanding its document imaging and digitizing program with plans to hire 18 more employees in the new year. The non-profit agency located in Fulton was founded in 1968 with a mission to support and improve quality of life for adults with disabilities and currently employs more than 180 people. Document imaging, scanning and shredding has been part of Oswego Industries operations for more than three years.
The New York State Senate Majority today (Jan. 25) pledged an additional $5 million in State and Municipal Facilities funding to bolster previous relief and provide necessary financial assistance to the flood-stricken regions near Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.

A sudden resignation last month left the Fulton City School District Board of Education grappling with options regarding the vacant seat. After soliciting letters of interest from community members willing to fill the position, five people came forward with interest in the position. After reviewing the interested parties, board vice president Dan Pawlewicz made a motion to appoint Christine Plath to the position at Tuesday’s (Jan 24) regular meeting. The motion was approved with four votes in favor and one abstaining vote from board member Lynn Lyons.
Two weeks after the Federal Energy Commission rejected a Department of Energy proposal for federal subsidies to prop up uncompetitive nuclear plants , the New York State Supreme Court in Albany County rejected motions to dismiss a lawsuit challenging billions in ratepayer subsidies for aging nuclear plants in New York’s Clean Energy Standard. The case is now headed to trial.
Trinity Catholic School, as one of 22 Catholic schools within the Diocese of Syracuse, will once again celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 28 – February 3. Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States, said Barbara Sugar, principal. On a designated day during Catholic Schools Week, schools in all four regions of the diocese will focus on giving back to their communities.
