A group of SUNY Oswego students came to understand India as a land of hope after traveling for two weeks during the college’s winter break to learn from people living in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India. Justin White, Oswego County Historian, along with town and city historians throughout the county, are compiling a listing of those from Oswego County who served in the military and died during World War I. “We are asking for the public’s help in completing this list so that a plaque can be made to honor our county’s fallen World War I veterans,” White said. “We are striving for as complete and accurate a list as we can compile, but we can’t do it without the public’s help. We want to complete this list by March 1.”
The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) announced it will bring a 45-minute science demonstration to all 78 sixth grade classes in 16 schools throughout Oswego County – a total of nearly 1,400 students.
The museum’s Oswego County Science on the Go program is made possible due to a $40,000 grant awarded by the Richard S. Shineman Foundation.

Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator Robert Lighthall announced that Oswego County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving. The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on February 2 and will end on February 5. The Super Bowl is America’s most watched national sporting event and Super Bowl Weekend is historically a deadly period for impaired driving.
U.S. Rep. John Katko was joined Tuesday (Jan. 30) evening for the President’s State of the Union address by Teresa Woolson, an Oswego County mother who lost her son, Victor, to synthetic drugs in August 2012. Following Victor’s death, Woolson created the Victor Orlando Woolson (V.O.W.) Foundation in his honor. Since then, has worked tirelessly on a local, state, and federal level to advocate for stronger policies to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid addiction and combat the rise of synthetic drugs.
Mayor Billy Barlow painted a bright vision of the Port City’s future in his third State of the City address Tuesday night. “We are in a state of progress, resurgence and revival,” the mayor told the standing-room-only crowd. “There are positive signs of progress that are undeniable and we must seize the opportunity, keep pushing forward and capitalize on the improvements we have made.”
