Around five dozen residents from around the county took part in a town hall meeting Tuesday night with some county legislators. In attendance were Tom Drumm (District 16) and Marie Schadt (District 19) – both Democrats. Roy Reehil (District 5), a Republican, provided some input via email. Fulton City Officials Recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month

A Mayoral Proclamation has recognized October 2017 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Fulton, recognizing the 30th anniversary of a nationwide effort born from victim service providers and survivors to raise awareness of the epidemic of domestic violence. Members of SAF, Oswego County’s domestic violence and rape crisis center were present at a recent meeting of the Fulton Common Council to accept the proclamation. Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Services to Aid Families (SAF) has provided crisis, supportive, advocacy, and educational services throughout Oswego County for 30 years. SAF served nearly 550 survivors and answered more than 2,300 calls on its Crisis Hotline in 2016, however, crimes of domestic and sexual violence remain vastly underreported, the proclamation detailed.

Port City Eyes Legal Action To Collect Unpaid Loans

The Administrative Services Committee put four Oswego business owners on notice of possible lawsuits unless they repay (between $11,000 and $65,000 each) overdue Community Development Office loans. At its meeting Monday night, the committee gave a favorable recommendation to City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli’s request to take legal action against the four. “They owe approximately $160,000, which needs to be accounted for. This is an attempt to collect what is owed the city of Oswego,” he told the committee. “I’m asking for your support to take legal action.”

Yoga has even been labeled as a trend in the United States because of its exponential growth. “I don’t think it’s a trend,” Oswego Bikram Yoga studio owner, Sandy Eby said. “It’s going to get bigger. It’s CiTi helping city, helping CiTi. At Monday night’s Physical Services Committee meeting, Mayor Billy Barlow requested consideration from the Common Council to authorize entering into an agreement with CiTi to undertake the demolition of residential properties located in the city of Oswego and owned by the city or under an Order to Demolish by the city’s Code Enforcement Department.

Fulton Fire, Police Gather at McDonald’s Public Safety Appreciation Day

The Fulton McDonald’s brought together local law enforcement for a public safety appreciation day on Saturday, October 14. Members of the Fulton Fire Department and Fulton Police Department joined B104.7 radio hosts, Ronald McDonald, and Hamburglar to interact with local families. Kids were able to answer fire safety questions with FFD firefighters to receive a bag full of information and items to encourage fire safety practices at home and take a turn sitting in the driver seat of a fire engine. Fulton police officers answered questions, handed out information and treats for kids, and allowed an inside look at patrol cars.

Deputies Investigate Fatal Crash on Interstate 81 near Lafayette

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening (Oct. 13) on Interstate 81 near the Lafayette exit in the town of Lafayette. The victim, a man in his 30s from Syracuse, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the FedEx tractor trailer, a 43-year-old man from Oswego County, was not injured.

Eight Rental Properties Receive Curbside Facelift Thanks to Fulton Block Builder Challenge

This is the first summer for the Fulton Block Builders (FBB) and it has been a very successful one. Linda Eagan, the FBB director, has been extremely pleased with the exterior improvements being made by homeowners, however there is one group she is particularly happy to be working with. FBB has had the opportunity to engage five different landlords who are revitalizing eight different properties throughout the city. One of the guiding principles for Eagan has come from Charles Buki, a founder of the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative; which FBB is based on. “When we say ‘healthy neighborhoods’ we do not mince words. We believe that lack of income should not disqualify people from growing up and living in nurturing communities. So when we say ‘healthy neighborhoods’ we mean a place where it makes sense for people to invest their time and energy and money.” – Charles Buki.
