State Police reported today (Nov. 8) that they have charged Shane S. Goncalves, 31, Pennellville, NY, and Alicia M. Stevens, 27, Phoenix, NY, with Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance under NYS Agriculture and Markets Law, a class “A” misdemeanor.
As polls have closed across Oswego County, unofficial results show a three vote difference between candidates in Fulton’s Fifth Ward and Frank Castiglia Jr. retaining his seat as the 25th District Oswego County legislator. Fifth Ward for the Fulton Common Council and the 25th District of Oswego County Legislature covering a portion of Fulton were the only two contested races relative to the city. Voters elected newcomers: Sue McBrearty (D) in the First Ward, Linda DeMassi (R) in the Second Ward, Kevin Hill (R) in the Third Ward, Robert Wilmott (R) in the Fourth Ward, and Ron Tesoriero (R) in the Sixth Ward. Two incumbents: John Gosek Jr. (R) in the Fifth Ward and Robert Corradino (R) in the Seventh Ward were re-elected.

Friends of History in Fulton, Inc. stirred up memories of the peaceful festival, a staple in music history as more than 60 people attended Friends of History in Fulton’s “Remembering Woodstock” event, reliving the magic with a themed buffet dinner, memorabilia of the time, and the musical stylings of Mike MacDonald playing some of the front runners from the festival. According to three guests who were in attendance at the original Woodstock festival nearly 50 years ago, the nostalgia was real.
At Monday’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, Justin Rudgick, Community Development Director, requested a public hearing regarding the NYS Lake Ontario Flood Relief Program. He also requested a public hearing regarding Preserving Landmarks of Oswego West (Round 5 Restore NY Communities Initiative). State Police in Hastings are investigating a one car fatal crash that occurred around 1 p.m. today (Nov. 6) on Salt Road in the town of Constantia. The preliminary investigation has revealed a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup operated by Terence J. Fries, 52, from Bernhardt Bay, was headed south on Salt Road when it left the roadway for an unknown reason.
Polling places throughout Oswego County will be opening for the 2017 election day at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, running all day until the polls close at 9p.m. Who can Fulton residents expect to see as candidates for elected official positions on their ballots? The town of Oswego Planning Board has begun the process of updating the town’s comprehensive plan. The planning board will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Oswego Town Hall, 2320 County Route 7, to gather public input and begin revising the first two sections of the plan.
The nominations, which reflect the striking diversity of New York’s history, include the Mount Hope Cemetery in the Finger Lakes where both human rights pioneers Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony are buried, four sites significant in African-American history, an Off-Off-Broadway theater in New York City that is important in LGBT history, and a piece of Oswego’s railroad history – The Oswego & Syracuse Railroad Freight House on West Utica Street.
Supported by Governor’s Adventure NY Initiative to Connect New Yorkers with Nature New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today (Nov. 3) announced the completion of $150,000 in improvements to the Salmon River Fish Hatchery in Altmar. The improvements represent the first phase of renovations planned for the hatchery in the coming year.
