Oswego Man Charged With Criminal Contempt, Endangering The Welfare Of A Child

On September 15, investigators charged 36-year-old, Daniel Pyne Jr., from Oswego with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and eight counts of Criminal Contempt 2nd degree, both class “A” misdemeanors. The charges stem from allegations that Mr. Pyne was using a third party to correspond with written letters to a protected party of a duly served order of protection.

Teen’s Program Allows Children With Disabilities To Play Soccer

In the seventh grade, Claudia Chetney was a Junior Girl Scout considering what she would do for her Girl Scout Silver Award. She brainstormed all the areas that she saw a need in her community and came up with helping kids with disabilities play sports; and it seemed only natural to pick the one she knew best. And so, for the past five years, children of all skill levels have been hustling up and down the fields of the at the Richard Benjamin Sports Complex located behind Oswego Middle School. But no one is keeping score. There’s no pressure — it’s all for fun.

Fulton Aims to Curb Chronic Absence at School

The Fulton City School District hosted its annual Attendance Awareness Celebration as part of a district wide campaign to promote regular attendance for all students. Earlier this month, Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and the Fulton Common Council officially declared September 2017 as Attendance Awareness Month in the city of Fulton. In an effort to encourage good attendance to benefit student success and positively impact the community as a whole, the district has led an attendance awareness campaign to significantly reduce the amount of chronic absences.

SUNY Oswego’s SHOP Expanding

SHOP at SUNY Oswego will be undergoing some further renovations to make the area more welcoming to those who come to take advantage of its resources. SHOP is located on the lower level of Penfield Library, in room three on the SUNY Oswego campus. Intern and coordinator Kayla Murphy describes SHOP as, “a one stop shop for our SUNY Oswego community members that need access to these necessities.”

Victim Identified, In Stable Condition

Through the investigation of the Oswego City Police Department, with on-scene investigative assistance provided by the Oswego County Sheriffs Department, it has been determined that 32-year-old Arron Hardy of Oswego, was walking westbound when she left the curb and walked into traffic on East Bridge Street (State Route 104) near the intersection of East Sixth Street. Ms. Hardy is being treated for undisclosed injuries at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, and is listed in stable condition.

First Travel-Related Zika Case Confirmed in Oswego County

The state Department of Health has confirmed that an Oswego County resident contracted Zika virus. The person had traveled to the Caribbean, where Zika virus transmission is common, prior to the diagnosis. Zika is primarily transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes and may cause serious health problems to infected people.

Three Unvaccinated Dogs Exposed to Rabies in Oswego County

Three unvaccinated dogs were exposed to rabies in Oswego County in separate incidents over the past week, the Health Department reported today. In Richland, two unvaccinated dogs were exposed to rabies during an encounter with a raccoon. A third dog was exposed in the town of Albion through a rabid skunk. Another rabid skunk was confirmed in city of Oswego but there were no known exposures to rabies from the skunk.
