Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Federal Funds For 62 NY Community Health Centers

Today (August 17), U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $6,400,528 in federal funds for 62 New York community health centers. The funding will be allocated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration. In Oswego County, Northern Oswego County Health Services received funds.

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (August 16) that Eastern equine encephalitis virus was found in three samples of bird-biting mosquitoes collected last week in Oswego County. EEE was detected for the second time this year near Toad Harbor Swamp in Constantia, where two mosquito samples tested positive, and for the first time this year in the Toad Harbor Swamp in West Monroe. Due to these findings, the Oswego County Health Department is taking the necessary steps to conduct aerial spraying of 10,000 acres in and around the Toad Harbor Swamp.

Mayor Barlow Announces Route 48 Slope Stabilization Project to Begin

Mayor William J. Barlow Jr. has announced that the city of Oswego Route 48 Slope Stabilization and Roadway Reconstruction Project is set to begin on Monday, August 21. Route 48 will be closed to all through traffic from Munn Street to Murray Street beginning on August 21. It will remain closed until December 2017, when the project is expected to be completed.

State Police in Fulton are asking for assistance in identifying the individual in the attached photo. He was observed on a town of Hannibal property in the overnight hours in late July and early August. Two chainsaws and an air compressor were stolen from a shed and a garage on the property.

The proposed Fiscal Year 2018 Budget for the City of Oswego, New York, is hereby submitted for your consideration. In 2016, I proposed, and the Oswego Common Council adopted a 2017 budget that shrank the size of City government, responsibly invested in our infrastructure, buildings, equipment and as a result, better positioned our community to grow and progress into a community on the rise. It is my intention to submit a budget for 2018 with a very similar theme.
