Schumer: Federal Funding Bill Is A Major Win For Upstate NY

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today (May 1) announced major victories in the bipartisan federal funding bill that will greatly help Upstate New York. Schumer said these victories will boost the economy and support vital programs, including: funding for the Great Lake Restoration Initiative (GLRI), funding to confront the opioid epidemic, funding HOME/CDBG Program, critical railroad safety programs, support for education and higher-education and many more. Schumer provided statements for several major areas in which the budget will be a major boost for Upstate New Yorkers.

Rabid Bat Found in the Village of Mexico

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (April 28) that a bat has tested positive for rabies in the village of Mexico. This is the second case of rabies confirmed this year. “Bats are a common carrier of rabies,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “Although they rarely attack humans, bats may transmit the disease through any physical contact.”

52 People Indicted And Charged With 370 Crimes, Part Of AG’s And Syracuse PD’s Narcotics Sweep

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler today (April 27) announced the indictment of a total of 52 people, including many charged with operating a drug trafficking ring that transported heroin and cocaine throughout Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Cortland and St. Lawrence counties; as well as two groups of individuals within this ring who are alleged to have conspired to murder their rivals. Some Oswego County residents are among those charged.

Family Fun Walk Event for Autism Set Saturday

The Oswego County Autism Task Force will host the Autism Family Fun Walk this Saturday, April 29, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Leighton Elementary School and Joe Wilber Field in Oswego. This annual autism awareness event is free with fun activities for the whole family including air hops, face painting, crafts, a bubble area, music, concessions, walking on the track and a vendor and resource area. In addition to the resource area and all the other activities, they are raffling off a Kindle Fire and will have their regular raffle baskets as well.

Oneida Street Bridge Rehabilitation Expected to Begin In May

The Oneida Street bridge over the Oswego River in Fulton is expected to see a rehabilitation period beginning at the end of May, according to city officials. The Fulton Common Council unanimously accepted a bid on Tuesday (April 25) of $1,888,597.95 from Vector Construction Corporation to complete the project, the lowest bid received out of four. At the same time, the council also advertised to accept bids for the rehabilitation of the North Sixth Street bridge over CSX in Fulton, located between Kimball Avenue and Clark Street.
