Flu Is in full Swing in Oswego County

According to the Oswego County Health Department, 74 lab-confirmed cases of the flu had been reported in Oswego County as of Jan. 23. More than half of those cases were reported in children 18 years of age or younger. Last week, the number of flu cases reported doubled compared to the number of cases reported the previous week.

Syracuse Diocese to Kick Off Catholic Schools Week with Day of Service

The 22 Catholic schools within the Diocese of Syracuse will once again celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 29 – February 4. “On Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church Hall, all of grades K-6 will be making fleece blankets as part of Linus Project,” Trinity Catholic School Principal Barb Sugar told Oswego County Today. “Blankets will be donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital.” Several other events are planned for the week.

Shavees Wanted! – Go Bald to Support Childhood Cancer Research

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered organization dedicated to raising money for children’s cancer research, will host its 11th annual St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on March 26, where, hopefully, more than 200 “shavees” will shave their heads to raise money for lifesaving research.

Rabid Raccoon Found in Oswego

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (Jan. 24) that a raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the City of Oswego. This is the third case of rabies confirmed in Oswego County since late December. Two dogs on the west side of Oswego were exposed to the rabid raccoon last week. Both dogs were up-to-date on their rabies vaccines and will require a rabies booster.
