State Police have charged 47-year-old Timothy J. Oleyourryk, of Oswego, with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident without reporting, a class “E” felony. On January 6, State Police in Fulton charged Oleyourryk with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident without reporting in connection to a car-pedestrian hit and run accident that occurred on December 10, 2016.
State Police have charged Asa S. Bordies, 20, from Syracuse, NY, with Assault in the first degree, and Robbery in the first degree, both class “B” felonies in connection with the shooting of Ismael Hernandez that took place in the village of Phoenix on November 14, 2016.
In a brief meeting Thursday, the Oswego County Legislature got ready to tackle business in 2017. Kevin Gardner (R) was re-elected as the chairman of the Oswego County Legislature. In other action Thursday, legislators approved Chris Jones as the new clerk of the legislature.
Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow today (Jan. 5) applauded Governor Cuomo’s third Proposal of the 2017 State of the State regarding making child care more affordable for middle class families in New York State.
The Fulton Common Council heard of a grant opportunity for Oswego County that could potentially involve a feasibility study focused on the option to dissolve the city of Fulton.
A suggestion to create a “council attorney” position to avoid possible conflicts in the future was debated for about a half hour Wednesday night. Opponents say the position isn’t needed; the current system works fine. However, proponents point out that since the city attorney represents several other entities, conflicts are a real possibility.
January 3, the first day of the 115th Congress, U.S. Rep. John Katko announced that he has reintroduced legislation that he authored and passed through the House during his first term in office, the Fort Ontario Study Act. U.S. Reps. Claudia Tenney (NY-22) and Louise Slaughter (NY-25) joined Representative Katko as original cosponsors of the bill.

Taking the place of former president and first ward councilor Thomas Kenyon, the council nominated and unanimously approved second ward councilor David Ritchie as president for 2017 during the first regular meeting of the new year. In other business, county legislator Frank Castiglia Jr., D-Fulton, stepped to the podium to speak to the common council at the first regular meeting of the new year. His first order of business, making a donation to the non-profit organization, Friends of Fulton Parks.
At Tuesday night’s public hearing, Dr. Dean Goewey, superintendent, offered a brief overview of the school district’s plan to sell the Education Center and relocate its central offices. He also responded to a handful of questions from the public. The district will hold a vote January 10 regarding two propositions – the sale of the building and use of funds to move central offices. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
