U.S. Rep. John Katko released the following statement on this morning’s (July 13) announcement that Entergy is in discussions with Exelon for the potential sale of the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant. “When Entergy made its announcement late last year that it was considering shutting down FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant in Oswego County, I vowed to do whatever I could to ensure these local jobs were protected.”
Assemblyman Will Barclay made the following statement today (July 13) after Entergy announced ongoing discussions to keep FitzPatrick operational. I am very pleased to learn that there are ongoing discussions between Exelon and Entergy for the sale of the FitzPatrick nuclear plant. Since Entergy announced its planned closure of the FitzPatrick plant last fall, elected officials, the Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition and the Oswego County community as a whole have worked tirelessly to find solutions to keep the plant operational.
Entergy Corporation announced today that it is in discussions with Exelon Corporation for the potential sale of the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba. The discussions with Exelon are consistent with Entergy’s commitment to consider any viable option that would allow FitzPatrick to remain in operation. Entergy announced in November 2015 that it planned to shut down and decommission the FitzPatrick plant, later setting the timing to cease operations as late January 2017.
Brian Pulvino has officially led the first board of education meeting as acting Superintendent of Schools for the Fulton City School District since his position began July 1. Serving the district for the first time as new members, Paula Hayden and Lynn Lyons accompanied Pulvino as new faces on the board.
At its meeting this week, the Common Council approved the marketing proposal initiative to promote the city of Oswego submitted by Oswego’s Promotion and Tourism Advisory Board. They will set up an informational event during Harborfest later this month. They will also distribute “table tents” (small placards) to area restaurants to further promote future events in the Port City.
State Senator Patty Ritchie today (July 12) voiced her support for a Public Service Commission proposal that would help protect New York State nuclear power plants, as well as the jobs and economic benefits they support.
The council authorized the Planning and Zoning Director to submit a grant application to develop a master plan of the Fort Ontario Complex. The complex is a large recreational area in the city, according to Paul Lear, historic site manager of Fort Ontario. “It hasn’t seen any significant improvements since the 1960s,” he told the council. Councilors also unanimously approved the proposal submitted by Housing Visions Consultants for the development of the Flexo Wire site.
At 10:40 a.m. today (July 11), State Police responded to a report of an unconscious male involved in a logging accident off Mullen Road in the town of Volney. Investigation at the scene revealed Shane D. Moore, 54, of Fulton, had been cutting down trees at the site when he was struck by a falling branch.
Assemblyman Will Barclay released the following statement today (July 11) after the Public Service Commission proposed to value nuclear as a clean energy source. “I applaud the state Public Service Commission for proposing to financially assist upstate nuclear power plants. Without this assistance, there is a high probability that our nuclear power plants would shut down.”
On Friday, July 8, at approximately 11:17 a.m., State Police in Pulaski attempted to stop a speeding Dodge minivan travelling northbound on Interstate 81 in the town of Richland. The driver failed to comply and continued northbound into Jefferson County, police said. The vehicle eventually came to a stop near exit 44 in the town of Adams
