Quietly, Fulton lost one of the nicest and sincere man in the city. Sam Veshio was probably one of the most prominent characters the city has ever had. He was a friend to most everyone including prominent, rich and poor.
HABs occur when algae populations explode due to favorable environmental conditions: high sunlight and nutrient levels, and warm temperatures. Currently, the city of Fulton is conducting a dredging project to remove excess nutrients trapped in the sediments. However, are we doing enough to proactively protect our water resources from future HABs?
Many voters feel that the most important and only elections that they should vote in are the Presidential Elections. They are so wrong. Local elections are the most important elections that the local voters should vote in. Local elections control your local spending. Local elections elect local elected officials.
I am writing this letter on behalf of the Fulton City School District Board of Education to make certain that our community is aware of our school district’s latest graduation rate of 84% (for the Class of 2017). This data point is cause for celebration for the board and the staff of the Fulton City School District, and it is an accomplishment resulting from the shared commitment of recent boards of education and all of our staff to our mission statement.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our extraordinary Fresh Air volunteers, host families, and supporters in the New York Lakes region. Fresh Air host families open their hearts and homes, and offer a child an opportunity to see the world through a new lens. In turn, our host families tell us how much they learn and gain from the children they host. Many children return summer after summer and develop lifelong friendships with their host families.
On August 24, I was guest conductor of the Fulton Community Band, at the invitation of its founder and director, Carol Fox. First I want to thank Oswego County Today and Steve Chirello for the coverage. I thank Carol and the band, who were active participants and to the audience which included former members of the GRB Band, which I directed many years ago.
We come to you today with so much love and appreciation for all of the strength and support that you have given us over the last six years; since the death of our beloved and dearly missed, Maggie Sue Wilcox. Now that all of their measures are solidly in place and all of the right people are hard at work, it is time for our rest and healing and remembering to begin. The MSGW Foundation and The Wilcox Mosquito Foundation (as well as our email and Facebook accounts) will now be dissolved and deactivated.
We have all heard about this I’m sure. We have all heard or read how our neighbor, the city of Oswego, has received money, lots of it, to accomplish its plan. Here in our city of Fulton, we have a group assembled to try and accomplish the same thing. They have tried once before and now they are trying again. I applaud them for their effort.
Our thanks go out to the Oswego County Emergency Management, and the Oswego County RACES group for the use of their communication trailer and antenna trailer; Paul Lear and his staff for the use of their beautiful facilities again this year; Scout Troop 825 out of Mexico for the use of their cook trailer; and all the many visitors who strolled on by and visited with our radio operators.
In last month’s County Legislative meeting, Chairman Gardner came through with his promise of adding more evening meetings. Yes, he requested that the Legislative body vote on adding more evening meetings and they honored his request. There will be evening meeting at 7 p.m. in July, August (Pulaski), September. Please join us.
