Each month Oswego Health offers two free diabetes support groups led by the health system’s certified diabetes educator. A group meets the first Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m.at Springside at Seneca Hill located halfway between Fulton and Oswego on Route 45A. The next meeting will be held March 5.
Sharps can be brought to the Oswego Hospital Health Services Center Suite G50 and to the reception desk of The Manor at Seneca Hill, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding holidays.
The used needles and syringes can also be brought to Oswego Health’s urgent care centers in Central Square and Fulton during the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Area senior citizens have had the opportunity to learn important safety tips from Oswego Health and Menter’s Ambulance Services staff members, as well as from two groups that work to prevent falls. The senior safety program was recently held at St. Luke’s Apartments, Bishop Commons and Simeon Dewitt Apartments, all in Oswego.
Oswego Health is offering free flu shots to the public over a five-day period at the Fulton Medical Center. The flu vaccine will be administered by nurses in the occupational health department from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on February 23, 25 and 27 as well as on March 2 and 4.
Each month Oswego Health offers two free educational diabetes groups led by the health system’s certified diabetes educator. The Oswego area diabetes group will meet from noon until 1 p.m. February 18. This group meets the third Wednesday of the month in the lower level JPC conference room of the Oswego Health Services Center, which is adjacent to Oswego Hospital.
“The flu has been very active this year,” said Oswego Hospital vice president and chief operating officer Allison Duggan, MD. “In order to safeguard the health of hospitalized patients, we are asking our community to assist us by not visiting friends or family members if they have flu-like symptoms such as fever and coughing.”
Residents can learn how to better manage their chronic condition during a free, six-week program that is being taught by experienced health educators. Oswego Health and the Oswego County Department of Health are once again offering the free workshops developed by Stanford University. The classes will be held four times during the year at convenient locations throughout the county.
In recognition of the month of February being proclaimed heart month, Oswego Health Cardiologist Thomas Grady Jr., MD, will be the guest speaker at an Ask the Doctor presentation at 6 p.m. February 5. His presentation will be held in the lower level JPC conference room of the Oswego Health Services Center, which is adjacent to Oswego Hospital.
Oswego Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2015 at 2:16 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Barry Lee Babcock was the hospital’s first newborn, weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces. His length was 21 inches. Parents are Kawana Jefferson and Barry Babcock, of Oswego.
