We have been thinking lately about how we, as the spokesanimals for a small animal welfare non-profit in a small rural county in Upstate New York, fit into the larger scheme of things – when there is so much hatred and misery in the world and when it seems that people everywhere are so angry about so much.
We have talked about Miley before, but she is still here and still needs a home of her own. She was found wandering the streets of Fulton, hungry, a little beaten up by other meaner cats, but totally intent on finding a person to pick her up and keep her safe.
A couple of weeks ago we talked to you about Service Dogs, what they are, what they do, their legal rights, and how that designation is sometimes abused. We expressed our general annoyance at people who abuse this important service with phony “credentials.” There are other categories of “helping” animals that you should also know about, emotional support animals and therapy animals. They are very different, but the problems with them are similar.
There’s “something” about gorgeous gray cats with come hither green eyes, don’t you think? Hemingway is definitely “something.” He’s a sweet and loving fella who gets along fine with other cats, dogs and kids.
We’ve said this before, but there is no problem with saying it again! This is the time of year that we used to issue warnings about all the horrible things that can happen to your pets over the holidays. If it’s not poinsettias to worry about (which it is not) then it’s mistletoe (which it is) or chocolate, or grapes or tinsel (yes to all).
Cayleigh is a sweet and friendly little tabby girl. She’s not a kitten, but she’s sure not a grumpy old cat, either. At about a year old, she loves to play, and be held, and play, and take naps, and play.
I have a 15-year-old house cat who recently went stone deaf. I was wondering if you have any ideas about what may have caused it, as everything else about her is normal.
I just read somewhere that onions and garlic are toxic to dogs and cats. When did that happen? I know that my dog, Glenda, has eaten leftovers that would have had a few cooked onions in them, and with no ill effect as far as I can see. And yes, I know I’m not supported to feed her leftovers, but she’s a lab.
This is not exactly an earth shattering sort of problem. In fact it’s not a problem at all, just idle curiosity. What do cat’s whiskers do? They all seem to have them more than most other animals so they probably do something, but what? Just wondering.
I was in a grocery store the other day and there was another shopper there with a big shepherd mix dog with a SERVICE DOG vest on. The dog was completely out of control, lunging at other shoppers, dragging its handler up and down the aisles. At one point I saw it snatch some bread from a low shelf.
