Budget: Spending Kept in Line; No New Taxes; Investments Made in Schools, Jobs and Parks

As I write this column, we are closing out on a long week of budget talks and have just passed the state budget in Albany.  I was happy with the budget process.  It was done during the daylight and lawmakers had plenty of time to review the bills before voting.  Again, we met the April 1 deadline–the second time in two years.

My office receives calls on a regular basis from people who are questioning a call they received from a vendor, or a product or service they purchased that isn’t what they expected.  Unfortunately, there are many individuals and businesses that prey on trusting people, especially seniors.

DNA Databank May Expand; Online Petition Launched To Ban Synthetic Marijuana

Current law only requires those convicted of felonies and some misdemeanors to submit a DNA sample.  I was pleased that this measure moved forward in the State Senate. I am a big supporter of expanding the DNA databank and I sponsor legislation that would do just that in the State Assembly.

Thank A Service Member Makes Us Mindful Of Sacrifices Made

The organization called Thank a Service Member gave a ceremonial send-off to soldiers from the 444th Engineer Company of Oswego as they prepared to deploy to Afghanistan last week.  Thank a Service Member formed, as the name suggests, to simply thank soldiers for serving our great country.
