Fishing Reports for September 28, 2010

This report a courtesy of Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.

According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:

The water level has been up and down running between 1,800cfs and 7,000cfs. There is significant rainfall in the forecast for Thursday which will likely affect the water level for the next few days. Due to the fluctuation of the water level, it is advised that anglers in the river wear flotation devices. Although there has been salmon activity in the river, with the rain and cooler temperatures coming later in the week hopefully this will spark a good run of salmon. Anglers on the night wall, Utica St. bridge north, have been having some success. Egg sacs, estaz flies, rubber eggs and trout beads are good choices of bait. Throughout the river sheephead and catfish continue to be active and smallmouth bass are biting on minnows and crankbaits.

The Salmon River’s Special Fly-fishing, Catch-and-Release Areas – Where a Trophy is Too Valuable to Catch Only Once

Anglers can explore ideal conditions for salmon and trout along designated fly-fishing areas of the Salmon River near Altmar. Recognizing the value of this precious resource, the authorities have set aside a couple short sections for fly-fishing, catch and release only, giving trophy salmonids the chance to survive and thrive after their encounter with man; and drawing anglers from all over the world to indulge in the possibilities.
