With only one Supermodified event remaining in the northeast this season before the dreaded snow and cold hits, a handful of Oswego Speedway’s weekly competitors will be joining the stout field of ISMA Supermodifieds set to compete at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s ‘World Series’ this weekend.

Gypsum Racing driver Lightning Larry Wight pulled off a late-race pass on veteran driver Jimmy Phelps and held off the five-time NAPA Super DIRT Week Champion Stewart Friesen for the $50,000 pay day.

The NAPA Super DIRT Week DIRTcar Pro Stock 50 ended on Sunday with a drag race to the finish after C.D. Beauchamp gave leader Chuck Dumblewski a tap off turn four to conclude a 50-lap battle a mere .017 seconds ahead. The competition heated up on Saturday afternoon with Time Trials as Fonda Speedway regulars Dumblewski and Josh Coonradt laid down a pair of Fast Times, only .008 seconds apart from each other, to set themselves on the front row for Sunday’s feature event.

It is not unusual to have the International Supermodified Series season title to go down to the wire, but this year’s chase is a little different. There are two relatively new names on top of the leaderboard. Epping, NH’s Dan Bowes sits just 16 points ahead of Bartlett, TN’s Kyle Edwards; neither of them has ever won an ISMA championship and both have just this season logged in their first career ISMA feature wins.

The Camping World Friday Night Lights Triple 30s brought the huge crowd to their feet with fantastic drives from winners Peter Britten, Danny Johnson, and Gary Lindberg. Graham Motorsports won two out of the three qualifiers making them the hot team of the weekend. NAPA Super DIRT Week surprise Gary Lindberg timed in the Top 6 and went on to win his 30-lap qualifier.

We knew we needed to limit our service errors against Central Square and we did a good job of that. We played good aggressive volleyball and our ace and kill tally by the end of the night showed that. Our struggle tonight (Oct. 4) was our communication.

Larry Wight picked up the victory in the Hurricane 100 358-Modified Series event at Brewerton Speedway as a part of NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLVII. Wight took advantage of Steve Bernier’s lap-98 miscue in turn two and drove on to win the 100-lap main event.
