The nationally-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team opened its 2017-18 campaign with a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Elmira College on Saturday (Oct. 28) night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. An annual tradition continues as Oswego Speedway will once again hold its Hall of Fame and Championship Banquet on November 4 at the Lake Ontario Event & Conference Center in Oswego, honoring deserving track champions Dave Shullick Jr. and Dave Cliff. Over two months removed from the final event of the regular season on August 19, Shullick and Cliff will officially receive the accolades of an Oswego champion.
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team will host its regular-season opener against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center Arena. In its exhibition last Saturday against the CCHL All-Graduate Team, the Lakers won 3-1, with goals from Mitch Emerson, Mike Gillespie and Chris MacMillan.
Our final home tournament was held this past Saturday. We finished first in our pool by going 5-1 in pool play and split with Solvay. In the gold semifinals we beat Central Sqaure 2 games to 1 to advance to the championship game vs Solvay. Solvay’s serving was too much for us and we lost to them in the Gold Championship match.

Going into the game we knew that Central Square has become a good serving team and we would have to do a good job of receiving the ball to get into a rhythm. We were able to lock in and had a lot of good kills, aces, and point blocks throughout all three sets.
We knew we were going to have a tough match on our hands from the first whistle until it was match point. The visiting CNS put us back on our heels a few times and we had to play some good defense.
Ahead of the 68th consecutive season of racing action at Oswego Speedway, track management is excited to introduce the ‘Heroes Among Us’ program to open at the start of the track’s 2018 campaign which begins with Opening Day set for May 26. ‘Heroes Among Us’ will give race fans the chance to nominate someone who they feel has gone above and beyond for the local community, Oswego Speedway, or in general.
With only one match this week we spent time on trying to keep our hitting game on point, and having a stronger net presence. We did what we set out to do. We had a lot of aces in the match and we had strong net control with a few point blocks and several kills on the stat sheet by the end of the third set.
