Elmira Defeats Lady Lakers

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team fell to Elmira, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers move to 2-1 on the season while Elmira improves to 1-0.

Oswego’s lone goal came with 1:04 remaining in the game. Freshman Jean-marie Padden took a shot from directly in front of the net, sending it past the Soaring Eagle goalie.

The goal was Padden’s second of the season.

Natalie Giglio and Victoria Blake each collected an assist on the goal.

The Lakers notched 18 shots during the game. Reigning Oswego State Athlete of the Week Kate Randazzo led the team with five shots, while Blake contributed four.

Goalie Mariah Madrigal played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers. The senior made 33 saves, a season high.

Oswego will be back on the ice at 3 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Buffalo State for Military Appreciation Night.

It will be the Lakers’ first NEWHL action of the season.

Beginning with this response, I am going to start a proposal to ban the use of the term “lady” when describing a female sports team for the simple reason that the terms “boy’s” or “men’s” or “gentlemen” is not used when describing a male sports team. No more “Lady Lakers” or “Lady Comets” or “Lady Maroons”. Enough is enough.
