Sobus Racing and driver Brian Sobus will be holding their Novelis Supermodified team fundraiser for the upcoming Oswego Speedway season on Saturday at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego with portions of the proceeds going to benefit young Julian Ross, a nine year old Oswego boy battling stage four neuroblastoma.
After a successful 2014 season in the small block supermodified division at Oswego Speedway, J.J. Andrews will once again team up with Billy Whittaker CARS and TRUX, of Central Square, for the 2015 season. Andrews will seek his first championship in his 18th season as a driver in the division.
The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team opened its season with an 8-6 overtime win at Utica College on Sunday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. It was the first game for both squads, making the Lakers 1-0 on the year while the Pioneers go to 0-1.
The third-seeded Oswego State men’s basketball team knocked off No. 1 Plattsburgh 70-58 to earn its second SUNYAC Championship in just four years on Saturday at Memorial Hall. With the victory, Oswego improves to 19-9 on the year and will make an appearance in the NCAA Championship after grabbing the conference’s automatic bid. The Lakers will find out who, when and where it will play in the tournament during the NCAA’s selection show at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
The second-seeded Oswego State men’s ice hockey team blanked No. 5 Buffalo State 2-0 in the SUNYAC Championship semifinal on Saturday night at the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego’s win pushes the squad into its fourth-straight SUNYAC Championship title game appearance with an 18-3-4 overall record. The championship game will be played at No. 1 Plattsburgh at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Strafford Arena.
The Oswego State women’s hockey team defeated Cortland 2-1 in the ECAC West quarterfinal Saturday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the win, the Lakers have improved to 19-6-1 on the season and will advance to the ECAC West semifinals for the second-straight year.
The 10th annual Oswego Speedway Old-Timers Reunion will move to a new weekend in 2015, pairing fittingly with the Speedway’s 65th anniversary celebration to take place on August 8 featuring race day admission of only $5 for fans to help celebrate the storied history of the ‘Steel Palace.’

Since 2009, Oswego Speedway’s King of Wings event has been one of the premier winged Supermodified races of the summer, with a who’s who of driving talents reaching victory lane.
