The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team fell 3-0 to No. 2 Elmira in the second ECAC Women’s West Semifinal matchup at Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday night. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 17-9-1 on the year while the Soaring Eagles advance to face No. 1 Plattsburgh in the championship game on Sunday.

The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team successfully defended its SUNYAC Championship with a gritty 7-6 win as Shawn Hulshof netted a power-play goal from Alex Botten with just 28.7 seconds remaining in the game. With the win, Oswego moves to 20-6-2 and more importantly earn an automatic qualification to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship.

After sitting out the 2013 Novelis Supermodified season at Oswego Speedway, Gioia Racing will make a full-time return in 2014 with the historic No. 9 and driver Stephen Gioia III along with new primary sponsor, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists.

Oswego Speedway Supermodified veteran Jerry Curran will kick off his 2014 racing season this Saturday (March 8) at the Woodchuck Saloon in Oswego with a chicken barbeque race team fundraiser.

Novelis Supermodified Rookie of the Year contender, Jessica Zemken, will highlight an Oswego Speedway driver autograph session to be held at the Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Liberty League commissioner Tracy King recently announced the 234 winter sport student-athletes who have qualified for the league’s All-Academic Teams in their respective sports. Ashlynn Palmitesso of Fulton, a sophomore on the women’s basketball team, is among the honorees. Ashlynn is in RIT’s biomedical engineering program.
