Three members of Oswego’s Oz Roller Derby team traveled to participate in the first-ever Northeast Renegade Tournament in Parsippany, NJ, cinching second place in a wild, fist-clenching championship bout. Invited to skate with the Boomtown Roughneck Renegade team from Binghamton, Mandy Frantz, Jason Fleming and Phil Gailinas knew they were joining what was considered the underdog team.
The second round of Oswego Kartway’s RJ Kart Sales Fall Frenzy has been canceled due to rain showers. With the cancellation, all that remains is the Fall Frenzy 150 finale coming up on September 20.
Oswego Speedway’s Fall Championship Weekend open practice session has been canceled due to persistent rain showers. The Speedway’s schedule for tomorrow’s (Sept 14) Davis Bros. Inc. ‘Open-Wheel Fall Finals’ remains intact with pit gates opening for competitors at 10:30 a.m.
The Oswego girls’ volleyball team chalked up a victory while the girls soccer team lost a close one and jayvee teams proved competitive with the boys’ soccer players remaining unbeaten and the volleyball team showing improvement.
Through the month of August, the Northeastern Midget Association has featured speed – record lap times at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY, Waterford Speedbowl and Riverside Speedway in Groveton, MA. Saturday, Sept. 14, NEMA returns to the citadel of speed – Oswego Speedway. Jim Miller’s 16.94 lap, set en route to victory last year, will be the objective. The NEMA Lites will also be returning to the five-eighths oval.
The Lady Bucs swim team had an outstanding meet with Mexico to start their dual meet schedule. Oswego scored a 102-77 victory over the visiting Tigers as the Bucs won 11 of 12 events. The night was capped off with a pool record breaking performance as the 400 freestyle relay team shattered a 15-year old record.
The second round of the RJ Kart Sales Fall Frenzy Series hits Oswego Kartway this Friday. A total of 56 drivers opened the series back on September 6 with full fields in each of the premier series divisions, Stock Heavy and Clone Heavy.
With the help of presenting sponsor Davis Bros. Inc. of Oswego, the ‘Steel Palace’ will see the inaugural running of the ‘Open-Wheel Fall Finals’ featuring track championship events for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS divisions along with bonus open-wheel racing from the NEMA Midgets, NEMA Lites, and the ATQMRA TQ Midgets.
When Dennis Beaudette of Industrial Tire Of CNY came to officials of the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways about a lucrative SUNY Canton Sportsman Series at both tracks, everyone involved knew it would be a home run for both competitors and fans.
The Oswego High School girls’ varsity volleyball team made the finals of tournament action while the swimmers were successful in invitational action, the golfers gained another victory and the football season commenced the new year.
