Friday will see a flurry of activity throughout the entire day with hot laps running from 11:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. as drivers in the Novelis Supermodified, Pathfinder Bank SBS, and RoC Modified divisions look to get valuable track time before qualifications at 6 p.m.
The seventh annual Oswego Kartway Classic will once again kick-off racing action during Oswego Speedway’s Budweiser International Classic Weekend on Thursday. The Kartway Classic has become a staple event for kart racers throughout New York State, and with increasing weekly kart counts at Oswego Kartway during the regular season, the Classic looks to be on its way to a record number of entries this week.
On Monday, the Oswego High School boys golf team took to the links in their first competition of the 2013 season. The nine hole Invitational, held at Drumlins East (front nine) showcases all nine teams making up the CNYCL, including last year’s sectional champs Cicero North Syracuse. Six of the eligible twelve varsity Oswego players qualified for this opening event.
Budweiser International Classic Weekend officially kicks off at Oswego Speedway on Thursday with the annual Classic Cruise-In and Party in the Pits and Oswego Kartway Classic. The Classic Weekend Cruise-In and Party in the Pits has become a tradition at the ‘Steel Palace,’ serving as the lid lifter to a tremendous weekend of racing featuring hundreds of classic cars and hot rods.
Whenever Chad Phelps unloads his Modified at Brewerton and Fulton Speedways, he is always a threat for a top finish or win. In the last month or so, Phelps has been quick, but unexpected mechanical gremlins would end his run. Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway, Phelps was able to put all of that behind him as he would grab the lead early on, and then hold off a late threat from Ryan Phelps and Pat Ward for the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature win.

The final event of Oswego Kartway’s regular season point race will take place on Friday with the running of the HRW Construction ‘Justin Lamb Memorial.’ Lamb, who lost his life on Sunday in a motor vehicle accident, was an avid Oswego Speedway fan, crew member, and former competitor at Oswego Kartway driving the Team Growl Racing No. 11.
With just two point paying races left in the 2013 racing season, race teams are jockeying for championships, point positions and wins, all trying to build momentum heading into the 28th annual Outlaw 200 weekend October 4-5 at the Fulton Speedway.
With Budweiser International Classic Weekend on the horizon, Oswego Speedway has set aside four designated test sessions for race teams beginning on Monday, August 26. The four hour sessions will run in the same fashion as the weekly Fast Friday tests that were held throughout the regular season.
