In a physical, back-and-forth battle, the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team dropped another heartbreaker in an 11-10 double-overtime decision at Potsdam Wednesday night. Kyle Nicholas proved to be the hero for the Bears, as he scored the game-tying goal and the game-winning goal with 1:42 left in the second extra frame.
The Oswego State baseball team (10-10) got out to an early lead Wednesday, but failed to sustain the advantage, falling 7-4 to St. John Fisher in a non-conference contest. The Lakers struggled to close out innings, surrendering five runs with two outs during the game.
Oswego State freshman Tori Trovato (Fulton, N.Y.) has been named the ECAC Division III Upstate Player of the Week in a release on April 9. Trovato hit .625 from the plate with a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.062 slugging percentage over the weekend.
“The Hitman,” Tony Steiner got a taste of Oswego Speedway last year in the Sportsman race Classic Weekend. He liked the thought of running Oswego Speedway weekly, liked the thought of running one night a week instead of the three or four nights a week on dirt.
Oswego State senior men’s ice hockey players Paul Rodrigues, Luke Moodie and Zach Josepher were recognized by D3hockey.com in its season-end awards. The Lakers were the only East Region team to have three honorees.
The Oswego State men’s tennis team (3-4) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and won five of six singles matches to cruise to a 7-2 victory over Keuka (0-4) Tuesday afternoon.
The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team (4-6, 1-3 SUNYAC) allowed five unanswered goals during a six-minute stretch that spanned through the first and second halves, as Buffalo State (7-5, 2-2) handed the Lakers a 17-10 loss Tuesday afternoon at Coyer Field.
In the past three seasons, this recycling partnership has surpassed the half million mark in recyclable cans thanks to the generous race fans that have donated an average of more than 100,000 cans for each of the past seven seasons in exchange for race tickets and other Oswego Speedway prizes.
Greco played a pivotal role in Oswego State knocking off previously No. 19 Geneseo in a 13-12 overtime decision. She finished the game with 13 saves and six groundballs against the Blue Devils.
