In its first action since Spring Break, the Oswego State baseball team (9-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) fell in both games of a non-conference doubleheader to Ithaca (13-4). The Lakers dropped a tough game in extra innings to start the day, losing 2-1 in 13 innings. Ithaca broke out the bats in the second game, cruising to a 10-3 win.
The Oswego State softball team (4-8, 1-1 SUNYAC) knocked off Cortland (7-9, 1-1 SUNYAC) in game one of a doubleheader, 4-2, to snap a 36-game Red Dragon winning streak on Friday. Cortland responded by winning the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings. The victory marked the Lakers’ first over Cortland since April 25, 1987.
Due the stubbornness of the last blast of winter from mother nature that has made drying conditions tough in Oswego county, the April 6 Test Tune at the Fulton Speedway has been cancelled. The season opener will see all systems go to kick off the 2013 season.
Joe Marotta’s ‘Around the Tracks’ radio show will once again broadcast live Saturday at 9 a.m. from the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum. Joining Marotta for his one-hour broadcast will be a host of Oswego Speedway Small Block Super competitors including JJ Andrews, Andrew Schartner, Jack Patrick, Mike Bruce, and Jeremy Pitcher.
For the second straight year, the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team and Ithaca were unable to settle things in regulation. However, the Lakers came up short as Andrew Bruce’s fourth goal of the contest nearly two minutes into overtime gave the Bombers a 6-5 victory Tuesday afternoon.
The Oswego State Women’s lacrosse team (3-3) was unable to capitalize on an early lead, as the Utica Pioneers scored seven unanswered first-half goals en route to handing the Lakers a 10-5 loss at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
SUNY Oswego is pleased to announce that Susan Viscomi has been selected as the next Oswego State Director of Athletics, effective June 1. She comes to Oswego State with more than 30 years of intercollegiate athletics experience as a coach, associate athletic director and, most recently, as Athletic Director at Hilbert College.
Freshman Erannan Shattuck (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored four goals, and was one of 11 different Laker players to score in the Oswego State women’s lacrosse team’s (3-2) 17-6 win over SUNY Canton (2-3) on Monday afternoon.
The February Oswego High School “Athletes of the Month” were varsity basketball player Marguerite Dillon and indoor track state runner up in the 55 meter hurdles Cory Keefe. Each received a $25 gift certificate for the Press Box in Oswego.
