FULTON, NY – The Fulton YMCA will offer the only marathon and ½ marathon events in Oswego County on Oct. 11.
The Century Marathon and Half Marathon will start at Bull Head Point at 7 a.m.
New this year is a wheelchair category for both the half and full marathon.
Registrations for the ½ marathon is $30 and for the full marathon is $60.
Registration is open until Oct. 9.
Kim McPherson, race director of Fulton YMCA, is happy to report that the race course has been certified, meaning it is an official Boston Marathon qualifying course.
It is designed in the spirit of both Boston and Ruthie to be a challenge in its own right. Ruthie’s courageous battle with breast cancer is reflected in the challenges of the course.
Registrations are being accepted at the Fulton YMCA, online and by mail. Visit www.fultonymca.com for race details and the printable registration form.
The race started in honor of a local runner, Ruth Ripley.
In 2008, Ripley, a breast cancer survivor, completed her 100th marathon in Fulton at the first Century Marathon.
Her love of running led to a self- imposed goal of running a marathon in each state across the country, then completing 100 marathons with her final close to home.
She started the hometown feel of this Fulton marathon, complete with homemade cookies at the finish line.
This event is made possible by the following sponsors:
