OSWEGO – In order to bring back such a large-scale free-admission music festival to the city of Oswego year after year, there is a substantial amount of work that goes on behind the scenes.
For the 29th annual Oswego Harborfest, the celebration is again scheduled for the last weekend in July, kicking off July 28 through to late Sunday afternoon, July 31.
Harborfest not only brings headlining musical talent to the NRG Lakeview Stage, the C’s Farm Market Veterans Stage along Riverwalk West, and the Eagle Beverage – Labatt Blue Light Jazz & Blues Stage in East Park – it is also famous for its fantastic Grucci fireworks display, sponsored by Entergy, as well as the Novelis Family Park, which provides quality, family-oriented events and activities for the children of Harborfest and their families.
Executive Director Peter Myles said, “Harborfest is unique because it is efficiently run by partnerships with city, county, law enforcement, public works, and business organizations as well as individuals and families. Without the continued and generous support of our business partners and individual and family members, we wouldn’t be able to make the celebration an annual community tradition.”
Harborfest may not open until the end of July, but this is still a crucial time of year for the organizational team behind the festival.
Rick Rodgers has been tirelessly seeking out and lining up sponsorships, while business and individual/family memberships are being coordinated by Cindy Loughrey.
Loughrey said, “We have mailed business membership applications and individual/family applications to many local businesses and residents seeking contributions. Response has been favorable, but in order for us to continue to offer a quality admission free festival we have to reach more people. We like to acknowledge all the generous support provided by our members and are currently organizing our annual program, where we plan to list the names of our friends, as well as on the website (www.oswegoharborfest.com). This is our way of thanking our amazingly supportive community and there has never been a better time to contribute to the support of Harborfest.”
