444th Engineer Company Deployment Ceremony To Be Held Jan. 31 In SUNY Oswego’s Laker Hall

Oswego, NY – A deployment ceremony for the 444th Engineer Company of Oswego will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. at SUNY Oswego’s Laker Hall.

The 444th Engineer Company is an Army reserve unit, based in Oswego, New York. More than 100 members of their unit will deploy to Afghanistan.

According to Peter Allen, Executive Director of Thank A Service Member, the Central New York non-profit organization that is helping to coordinate the event, the community is welcome to attend the free event, and come out and support their local troops.

“We really encourage the Oswego community to join us and show their recognition and appreciation for the 444th and their families,” said Allen. “Our soldiers deserve our support and we are looking forward to honoring their service at the deployment ceremony.”

Tuesday’s ceremony is being sponsored by National Grid, Oswego County Federal Credit Union, Step One Creative, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse University.

“We greatly appreciate the support that has been shown for our reserve unit,” said 444th Engineer Company Staff Sergeant John Madonna. “On behalf of our soldiers, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all of the local officials, area businesses, community members, sponsors, and volunteers who have supported this community event and ceremony.”

The event will begin at 10 a.m. in SUNY Oswego’s Laker Hall. Refreshments will be served in the lobby until 11 a.m. followed by welcome introductions. Guest speakers will then follow and include: SFC Charles Haws, Master of Ceremonies; Colonel Constable, Chief of Staff of the 411th Engineer Brigade; LTC Jason Wallace, 479the Battalion Commander; SGM Dennis Jacques, G3 Operations Sergeant Major; and Allen of Thank A Service Member. Immediately following the speakers the deployment ceremony and a Thank A Service Member Commemorative Coin presentation will be held.
