OSWEGO — The year’s first driver safety program for Oswego County will take place March 25 and 26 in New Haven, but SUNY Oswego’s Retired Senior Volunteers Program and AARP continue to seek class participants and volunteer instructors for more two-day sessions.
The first class will run 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. March 25 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26 at Community Alliance Church, 4175 State Route 104, New Haven. RSVP volunteer Rachel Brooks will teach. Registrations are first-come, first-served for drivers of any age, through the Rev. Jim Bruinsma at 963-2097. The fee is $14; AARP members pay $12.
RSVP and AARP team to recruit and support instructors, who must be 55 and older and state-certified to teach classes for adult drivers. The instructors receive reimbursement for all out-of-pocket expenses. Call RSVP at 312-2317 for more information.
Ann Johnson coordinates AARP’s Driver Safety Program, which documents successful completion for class participants. Drivers then can receive up to a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance.
RSVP, sponsored in Oswego County by the college and United Way, is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
