PARISH, NY – He’s happy and fluffy and tough for his size!
It’s the Cinnamon Bear, who recently made a visit to Altmar Elementary School.
Students from grades pre-kindergarten through fourth grade at Altmar Elementary School delighted their audience with chorus performances intermingled with a retrospective performance of The Adventure of the Silver Star, a recreation of the 1937 old time radio series called The Cinnamon Bear.
From the student’s handcrafted props and period-themed costumes to recordings from the original radio series, the auditorium was transported back in time to the winter of 1937 as spectators followed the progression of the Cinnamon Bear story between choral performances by each grade level.
Beginning with the Universal Pre-Kindergarten classes who donned their favorite pajamas and slippers to sing “Making a Snowman†and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,†the audience was taken on a magical journey to Maybeland in pursuit of the missing Silver Star, meeting a colorful cast of characters along the way.
With spectacular set backdrops, props and beautiful songs ranging from the light-hearted to the traditional Christmas carol, the concert was certainly a treat for all senses.
Many songs featured fun artistic embellishments, including acoustic guitar accompaniment by Mr. Gil Lopez, physical animation and an electric guitar solo by fourth grade student, Dylan Waite.
The crowd was a sea of video cameras and flashbulbs, as various attendees tried to capture those special moments that last a lifetime.
Wishing family and friends a happy holiday season, Principal James Heffron thanked the parents of Altmar Elementary students for coming to the concert.
He added, “As always we would like to thank you for sharing your greatest gift, your children, with us.â€Â
Altmar Elementary School’s Annual Holiday Concert consistently boasts one of the biggest audiences of the school year, as many parents and staff members look forward to attending it all year long.
