American Legion New York State Commander, Auxiliary President and Detachment Commander Visit Oswego County

The Oswego County American Legion Organization will host a joint visitation by Department Commander Keith Koster, Auxiliary President Kimberly Quick and Detachment Commander Gaither Espey on Tuesday October 1, 2024. During the visitation, Keith Loster, Kimberly Quick and Gaither Espey will have lunch at the New Haven Hamlin-Weldin Post 1532, and then visit Safe Haven at 12:30pm. At about 1:30pm the group will visit the Fort Ontario Post Cemetery where there will be a short press conference and wreath laying. Then at 5:30pm there will be a social time at the Hannibal Prior Stock Post 1552, followed by a program and dinner.
Department Commander Keith Koster, a native of Schenectady now resides in Saratoga Springs with his wife Cindy. A U. S. Navy veteran, Koster was an electronic warfare technician aboard the USS Suribaci during the 1980s. His service included deployment to the Mediterranean. He has been a member of Adirondack Post 70 in Saratoga Springs for more than 26 years, serving in a variety of positions, including post commander. Koster also served as commander on the county and district levels before serving a term as department vice commander. His Legion involvement extends to the national level where he serves on four committees. Kimberly Quick has been a member of Mohawk Unit 1450 in Halfmoon, NY since 2003; becoming an Honorary Life member in 2018. Kim was Unit President in 2007-2009, County President 2009-2011, and Fourth District President for 2014-2015. Kim was elected to Department 3rd Vice President in July 2021 in Buffalo and elected to Department 2nd Vice President in July 2022. Gaither Espey is a resident of Halfmoon.

During their one-year terms in office, the Department Commander, Auxiliary President and Detachment Commander visit each of the sixty-two counties in New York State to coordinate Legion activities within the state. The American Legion is an organization formed in 1919 to represent Veterans and to promote patriotism and citizenship in America. It is the largest Veterans’ organization, having over 2.4 million members nationally. The Legion Auxiliary membership consists of mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and/or granddaughters of Veterans who are Legionnaires or, if deceased, would have qualified for Legion membership. The Sons of the American Legion is made of male descendants of Legionnaires or, if deceased, would have qualified for Legion Membership.
