Oswego County Joins Statewide STOP-DWI Effort During July ‘100 Days of Summer’

Upcoming ‘High Visibility Engagement Campaigns’ –

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that police agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state will join forces to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and provide additional law enforcement patrols throughout the month of July.

The “High Visibility Engagement Campaigns” will focus on the July “100 Days of Summer” with particular emphasis on the following dates:

  • Thursday, July 10 through Sunday, July 13
  • Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20
  • Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27

“Many of the fun events people like to participate in over the summer involve alcohol, which leads to an increase of alcohol-related injuries and deaths this time of the year,” Hall said. “We urge those who plan to consume alcohol or any other mind-altering substance to have a plan before they start.”

Hall reminds people that impaired driving is completely preventable if they just do a little planning ahead of time. He suggested having a designated driver, calling a taxi or a rideshare service, or walking – anything but driving.

“Everyone can help make a difference by having a sober plan,” he added. “People can even download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, which provides them with a safe ride home.”

This joint campaign is just one of the many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. High Visibility Engagement Campaigns also target the end of summer and Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the December holiday season, Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, 420 Drug Day, Memorial Day and July 4th.
