Oswego County Re-schedules Energy Industry Career Exploration

Apply by March 16 –

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Energy Industry Career Exploration hosted by Oswego County Workforce New York (OCWNY) scheduled for this week has been postponed. The program will now run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2 at the OCWNY Career Center, 200 N. Second St., Fulton.

The program is held in partnership with Constellation and National Grid and offers high school seniors an introduction to green energy fields. It is open to students aged 18 and older who are enrolled in an Oswego County school district.

“This is a great opportunity for high school seniors interested in the energy industry to learn more about their career options, network with those already in the field and work on their professional skills,” said Oswego County Legislator Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10, chairwoman of the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee. “Participants can also earn $100 in gift cards each day they attend, for a total of $400 in gift cards for those who complete the program.”

The curriculum includes presentations from representatives of National Grid, Constellation and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Lunch will be provided each day.

Along with knowledge of energy jobs and gift cards, participants will also receive a career readiness credential and certificate of participation upon completion.

“At the end of the program, students will take an ACT WorkKeys assessment to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC),” said Rachel Pierce, director of Oswego County Workforce New York. “WorkKeys and the NCRC are great measurements of how people are prepared for the workplace. Having this credential strengthens a job seeker’s application and supports career advancement, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.”

The NCRC is a nationally recognized credential that demonstrates essential workplace skills in applied math, workplace documents and graphic literacy. It’s highly valued by employers across multiple industries as a reliable measure of workplace readiness.

Registration is required, as space is limited. To apply, email [email protected] by Monday, March 16.
