OSWEGO COUNTY- Oswego County residents that have experienced damage to their home or business due to the recent lake effect snowstorm event can now report their losses online.
The Oswego County Emergency Management Office (EMO) is working with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (NYS DHSES) to determine whether there is enough damage to homes and businesses in Oswego County to qualify for a low-interest loan program administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA).
DHSES has opened an online Damage Self Report Tool for individuals and businesses impacted by the lake effect snowstorm that dropped feet of snow on the county Feb. 14-19.
“This tool will help the state determine if there is enough damage to request a disaster declaration by the Small Business Administration,” said Tyler Peet, emergency management coordinator for the Oswego County Emergency Management Office.
“The survey is not an application for relief programs.” Peet stressed. “The information provided will help the state determine if the SBA program is warranted.”
People who have uninsured losses from the February lake effect snow storm can visit https://on.ny.gov/3xLeNbY to fill out a form listing their damages. This is not a form for federal relief programs. If low-interest loans are available through SBA, the SBA will issue announcements.
Reporting is voluntary and not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency, nor does it guarantee disaster relief assistance. One survey should be submitted for each housing unit or business. People should attach photos of the damage as they complete the survey.
The threshold to reach the Small Business Administration loan program is 25 homes and/or businesses with 40% or more uninsured loss of the Fair Market Value of the home or property. A separate SBA declaration for agricultural losses is also being pursued.
