Some Of My Favorite Civil War Soldiers From Oswego County (And How I Got There)

Oswego, NY – Renowned author Natalie J. Woodall, PhD, an esteemed author, educator, and Civil War researcher, will be presenting a captivating talk on her extensive work in the field of Civil War research and writing. The event is scheduled to take place at the Oswego Public Library on November 18, 2023, at 2 PM.

With a background in classical languages and English literature, Dr. Woodall has dedicated herself to uncovering and preserving the rich history of Oswego County’s involvement in the Civil War. As a retired educator and former reporter for the Palladium-Times Newspaper, she brings a unique perspective and wealth of knowledge to her research and writing endeavors.

Dr. Woodall has authored several highly acclaimed books, including “Oswego County and the Civil War: They Answered the Call” (History Press, 2012), “The 110th Regiment: Oswego’s Own” (Outskirts Press, 2016), “Of Blood and Battles: Oswego’s 147th Regiment” (Outskirts Press, 2019), and “Notable Oswego County, NY Civil War Veterans” (SUNY Press, 2022).
In addition to her published works, Dr. Woodall has contributed numerous scholarly articles, book chapters, and newspaper feature stories to the field of Civil War research. Her dedication to uncovering hidden stories and shedding light on the sacrifices made by those who served in the Civil War is evident in her extensive body of work.

Recently, Dr. Woodall undertook a remarkable project, writing a series of biographies of notable Freemasons in Oswego City as part of the 175th anniversary of Freemasonry in Oswego. These biographies were published in the Palladium-Times and have been compiled by the Half-Shire Historical Society in the book titled “A Masonic Journey: 175 Years of Freemasonry in Oswego, NY” (2023).

Currently, Dr. Woodall is working on her upcoming book, “Noteworthy Women of Oswego County, New York,” scheduled to be published by SUNY Press in 2024. This book promises to be another significant contribution to the understanding of the region’s history and the remarkable women who have shaped it.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Woodall is an avid genealogist and photographer. She is an active member of several esteemed organizations, including the Oswego County Historical Society, Half-Shire Historical Society, Winter Club, Friends of the Oswego Public Library, Friends of Fort Ontario, and Friends of Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Woodall also holds notable positions in fraternal organizations, serving as the past worthy matron and current secretary of Lake City Victoria Chapter No. 205 Order of the Eastern Star, as well as the grand representative of Kentucky, Order of the Eastern Star for 2023-2024.
