FULTON, NY – Oswego Industries, Inc. raised a net profit of $6,590 at its 6th Annual Oswego Industries, Inc. Golf Open, held June 24 at Battle Island Golf Course in Fulton. Funds raised will benefit rehabilitation programs at Oswego Industries, which has been providing services to individuals with disabilities in Oswego County since 1968. Players enjoyed themselves despite some rain that Friday morning, and tested themselves at the event’s signature “Disability Hole” challenge. This year’s challenge was for players to wear special gloves, which were modified with tongue depressors attached to the fingertips, while teeing off on the first hole. The contest was a playful reminder of the real fine motor challenges faced by many Oswego County citizens every day. Each year, players at the Disability Hole are required to tee off while simulating a disability. The challenge changes each year, and is a closely guarded secret up until the day of the tournament.
The winning team for this year’s tournament was “Putt on the Ritz,” captained by Shirley Baker of Hannibal. The prize for Last Place – also called the “Honesty Award” – was given to the team captained by Bob Padula of Empower Federal Credit Union, and his players Dave Gleason, Dick Ratowski and Bob Wierman. The Par 3 Poker prize was won by the Central Therapy team, captained by Jason Myers.
Winner of the Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive contests for the men was Jake Czyz, playing for the Novelis team. Winner of the Closest to the Pin contest for the women was Shirley Baker, and winner of the Longest Drive contest for the women was Judy Till of Fulton.
Oswego Industries, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit Community Rehabilitation Program which has been providing programs and services to adults with disabilities since 1968. Services include pre-vocational and vocational training, day habilitation services, and Medicaid Service Coordination. Its mission is to be a partner in the development of comprehensive community services designed to improve the quality of life for all people, with the primary emphasis on those with disabilities, by providing the necessary support programs to enable individuals to grow with dignity and achieve their highest level of independence and self-fulfillment. Its sister agency, ARC of Oswego County, provides services to children and seniors with disabilities: together creating a comprehensive support system for Oswego County residents with disabilities.
