APW Valedictorian Kylie Bartlett is the daughter of Francis and Andrea Bartlett.
With a GPA of 97, she also is a member of National Honor Society and has participated in battle of the books competitions.
This year, her team took second place at the regional battle of the books competition.
Bartlett was on the varsity track and soccer teams.
She considers some of her greatest accomplishments in high school to be winning state championships at the pentathlon and also being chosen as the CNY female athlete of the year for track.
She received numerous athletic awards at this year’s APW Varsity Athletic Banquet including the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award (awarded to a member of a varsity team that is a leader among her peers and an outstanding citizen), the Floyd G. Bristol Award (given to a senior athlete with the most recognized athletic ability) and the Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award.
Bartlett will be attending the University of Rochester with a major in biology this fall, and is leaving APW High School with 29 college credits.
“I have always loved science and it’s a field that I can go in many different directions,” she said. When asked how it feels to be valedictorian of her class she commented, “It’s just another place in the class.”
APW Salutatorian Kathleen Palmer is the daughter of Mark and Karla Palmer.
She completed high school with a GPA of 95.7 and 18 college credits.
She was the co-treasurer of the senior class, a member of National Honor Society and a Section III scholar athlete.
She has played first clarinet in band and also learned to play the tuba this year.
She also participated in choir, softball, basketball and soccer.
She considers some of her greatest high school accomplishments to be receiving first team all-league for second base, being chosen as MVP for softball and getting honorable mention for soccer.
She received the Section 3 Scholar Athlete Award at the APW Varsity Athletic Banquet, which is based on sports participation, athletic honors and awards, academic honors and awards, extra-curricular activities and volunteer community service as well as the Team Player Rebel Award.
Palmer will be following in the footsteps of her parents who are both pharmacists and attending Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Services this fall.
She also has aspirations of traveling and visiting each state at least once.
When asked how it felt to be salutatorian, she quoted her basketball coach Kareem Jones in saying, “Trust in the process and you will get the results.”
