Beginning in March – which is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month – ARC of Oswego County will kick off its annual Membership campaign. For minimal cost, interested persons can gain access to a wealth of information on disability issues through ARC of Oswego County, the New York State ARC, and The Arc of the United States. Memberships also help support the nonprofit’s crucial work with children, adults, and seniors with disabilities all over Oswego County.
ARC of Oswego County is a private, not-for-profit organization which has been providing programs and services to individuals with disabilities since 1955. Services include Early Intervention and evaluation services for infants and toddlers, guardianship assistance, recreational and respite activities, Medicaid Service Coordination, senior day habilitation programs, and more. Its mission is to be a leader in the field of developmental disabilities, committed to meeting the needs of individual growth, productivity, and independence through education, advocacy, and increased community acceptance and participation. Its sister agency, Oswego Industries, Inc., provides services to adults with disabilities: together creating a comprehensive support system for Oswego County residents with disabilities.
Membership in a regional chapter – such as ARC of Oswego County – automatically includes membership in both the state and national organizations. Members can have access to educational materials, trainings, and workshops; advocacy alerts and information; and support from parents of children with disabilities. In addition, strong membership rolls help ARC of Oswego County have a stronger voice in advocating for the rights of Oswego County residents with disabilities, both on the state and local levels. Proceeds from the annual membership drive help support the nonprofit’s programs, such as home-based therapies for infants and toddlers with developmental concerns.
Annual memberships for the public start at just $5, and members receive a twice-yearly informational newsletter; invitations to the ARC Annual Dinner, the ARC Gala, and other events; a window cling to display in their car, place of business, or home window; and the satisfaction of standing up for those who face multiple physical and societal disadvantages. Higher level memberships, such as $50 Gold memberships and $100 Platinum memberships, also help support therapeutic and programming services for children, adults, and seniors with disabilities in Oswego County.
ARC of Oswego County encourages everyone to consider becoming a member for 2010. If you have more than one person in your household, you can maximize the impact of your membership by registering each individual as a member. If you have the ability to register for a higher level of membership, or to make a financial donation in addition to your membership, those extra dollars will be used for programs and services for Oswego County residents with disabilities or developmental concerns.
