Area Students Participate In Kick Butts Day

OSWEGO – On March 21, the Tobacco Free Network of CNY participated in Kick Butts Day; a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco.

The goals of Kick Butts Day are to raise awareness of the problem of tobacco use in their state or community, encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free, and to urge elected officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco.

The Tobacco Free Network of CNY delivered Kick Butts Day activity packets to schools in Oswego, Onondaga, and Cayuga counties.

Each kit contained six meaningful statements relevant to the fight against big tobacco.

Each school chose six of their students to select a message and take a photo with their sign.

Events such as these serve to give youth a voice and become advocates for a cause that they themselves believe in.

Reality Check is always looking for new members between the ages of 13 and 18.

Applications can be found on icpoc.org or by contacting the Tobacco Free Network at 315-343-2344 ext. 10.

These Advancing Tobacco Free Communities programs are divisions of Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, Inc., and funded by NYS DOH: Bureau of Tobacco Control grants working to change the community environment to support a statewide tobacco-free norm.
