Artist Carol Burghart Featured At Lakeside Artisans During June

OSWEGO, NY – “I was a hairdresser for 25 years, having the business in my home. It allowed me to be home with our children and then babysit with our grandchildren. Nearing the end of hairdressing and babysitting I wanted to get back into art,” said Carol Burghart who specializes in watercolors of local scenes in Oswego, Hannibal and Fair Haven.

Burghart did not have a formal arts education.

Instead she took adult education classes offered by the local schools in mostly drawing and oil painting.

Local artists Norman Roth and Judith Ann Benedict and Florida based artist Douglas H. Teller have also taught Burghart to “observe everything around me in a different way.”

She learned to love mixing different colors to come up with other colors and to explore painting real objects, learning from everything she sees and does.

Burghart eventually decided to concentrate on watercolor painting because “Watercolors mystify me. Just mixing in a puddle of water on a piece of paper you can get the most beautiful mixture of colors letting them blend on their own. Then you can play with them and take them in the direction you want them to go (sometimes) to make a beautiful painting. When those colors collide they can make the most beautiful things happen. It’s all very exciting to me.”

Burghart teaches watercolor painting in her own home.

She loves passing on what she has learned, exchanging ideas and learning from other artists.

Burghart has been a member of the Fulton Art Association, the Suncoast Watercolor Society during her winters in Florida, Fair Haven Treehouse Gallery and Curious Moon artists’ co-op.

“I feel privileged to be with the Lakeside Artistians cooperative at the Canal Commons. It’s a wonderful place to display my work as well as to be associated with such a great group of artists and artisans,” Burghart said.

Burghart has chosen a print of one of her watercolor paintings for a drawing to be held on June 30.
